Juventus claim Turin bragging rights

Juventus extend their lead at the top of Serie A to nine points with a 1-0 victory over local rivals Torino in the Turin derby.

Juventus have restored their nine-point lead at the top of the Serie A table with a narrow 1-0 victory over Torino in the Turin derby.

The first chance of the match fell to the away side after just 10 minutes when Leonardo Bonucci was caught in possession, allowing Ciro Immobile to break and find Omar El Kaddouri, whose lofted effort went over the bar.

The hosts responded with a chance of their own just a minute later. Carlos Tevez span away from Cesare Bovo before drilling a low shot towards the bottom corner that Daniele Padelli did well to save.

Torino came close to opening the scoring in the 18th minute when Immobile smashed an effort into the stanchion, breaking the goal in the process.

The end-to-end nature of the match continued when Andrea Pirlo sent a free kick narrowly over the bar just a minute before Matteo Darmian's cutback found Jasmin Kurtic, whose effort also went just too high.

Juventus broke the deadlock right on the half-hour mark when Tevez picked up Kwadwo Asamoah's pass before turning and rifling an effort into the bottom corner from 20 yards.

Torino had a chance to level things up once more just five minutes later. Kamil Glik rose highest in the area to meet Alessio Cerci's cross, but he could only direct his header straight at Bianconeri goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.

Tevez came close to getting his second of the game in the 66th minute when a defensive mix-up presented him with the ball inside the area, but Padelli did well to deny the Argentine.

The visitors pushed for an equaliser late on, but Juventus held out to keep their stranglehold on top spot and claim local bragging rights.
